Barbour: You wont recognize health reform when GOP is done with it

If Republicans get control of Congress after the midterm elections, the party will make the recent health care reform law unrecognizable, the chairman of the Republican Governors Association said Sunday.

Gov. Haley Barbour of Mississippi told NBC's David Gregory that there would be significant changes to health care reform even if it wasn't completely repealed.

"I think if [Republicans] don't fully repeal and replace it, they will make such big changes in it over the next three years that you won't recognize it," Barbour said.

Gregory asked Democratic National Committee chairman Tim Kaine why most Democrats were not campaigning on the health care reform accomplishments.

"A lot of them are," Kaine argued.

"I've been to 40 plus states as DNC chair and you can pick out Democrats who are not running on health care but the overwhelming of candidates that I'm standing up with, they're proud of the party, proud of the president, proud of the accomplishments. And they're thrilled that they have reformed the health care system to stop insurance company abuses, make sure that young people can stay on family policies until age 26, help seniors and help small businesses," he said.

Barbour told Gregory that he would be "surprised" if Republicans don't win the House. "I think it's harder in the Senate," he said. More...

Tampa, FL - An unprecedented two-minute ad that will premiere on Tampa stations Wednesday reveals Republican candidate Rick Scott's lengthy record of unethical business practices.
The two-minute documentary-style ad unveiled today by Alex Sink is unprecedented in Florida elections. Members of the Police Benevolent Association joined Alex Sink to premiere the documentary.
The new ad provides detailed background on Ricks Scott’s record: from the $1.7 billion in fraud fines against his company to his repeated refusal to explain why he took the Fifth Amendment 75 times in a deposition, including on a question about his company’s Medicare fraud. More...

Florida prosecutors and law enforcement officials speak out about Rick Scott's refusal to be open and honest with Floridians. Scott claims he didn't know the company he led was systematically ripping off seniors and taxpayers, but pleaded the Fifth Amendment to avoid incriminating himself 75 times in a single deposition.

Florida DemocratsFlorida Democrats

20 hospitals raided by the FBI in Florida.  14 felony charges.  $1.7 billion in fines.

That's Columbia/HCA by the numbers.  The company founded by Republican gubernatorial nominee Rick Scott was guilty of the largest Medicare fraud in history, and it was all committed while Rick Scott was at the helm.

4,000 and counting.

That's how many Floridians have taken a stand against Rick Scott's refusal to release a deposition regarding further allegations at his newest company.  Scott says it's a "private matter."

Sign the petition now demanding Rick Scott release the deposition and let Florida voters know the truth.

Florida Republicans have grown their culture of corruption into a culture of indictments and arrests, with politicians across the state facing potential federal criminal investigations.

Rick Scott was ousted from Columbia/HCA just days after the FBI raided their offices. The company later pled guilty to paying illegal kickbacks to doctors and lying to Medicare auditors to collect more money from the government - which was the business model Rick Scott pioneered. With his record of fraud, we cannot accept Rick Scott's stonewalling over allegations of criminal activity.

Join us and thousands of other Floridians and sign the petition demanding Rick Scott release the deposition.

Because no matter what Rick Scott says, the Governor's office-- running the entire state of Florida-- is not a "private matter."

We deserve better.  We deserve the truth.

Sign the petition now.

Thank you,

The Democratic Governors Association argued in a conference call this morning that amid all the challenges facing the Democrats this year gubernatorial races are a bright spot where Democrats are looking to pick make gains rather than just minimize losses. And few if any states look brighter for a pick off than Florida:

"There is no state that I think better represents what's at stake in 2010 because it is an open seat governor's race with a very, very clear contrast between the parties,'' said executive director Nathan Daschle. "It is obviously a 2012 presidential battleground. And it also a state that is going to undergo redistricting, and the governor plays a very important role in that. So Florida is in some sense the trifecta of all this is important about 2010."

He and strategist John Anzalone argued that Republicans are miscalculated that the apparent Republican wave looming effects state races the way it may federal races. More...
